Happy National Celiac Awareness Day!

by | G+ Amy Leger

We LOVE this day!  National Celiac Awareness Day! A day to help folks realize what celiac disease is, its symptoms and the only treatment — a gluten-free diet.

It is a fact that 1 in 133 Americans have celiac disease and approximately 97% don’t know it!  Undiagnosed celiac disease can be filled with symptoms (diarrhea, vomiting, lack of concentration (fogginess), stomach pains, bad teeth, can’t get pregnant, osteoprosis, liver disease, and much more) or it can be completely asymptomatic.

Folks who have celiac must be 100% gluten free.  Any gluten can cause unhealthy damage to their bodies.  This is why you hear so many of us be non-negotiable in our requests for gluten free products either at restaurants or at a store.

The more people know about celiac disease the better!

What will you do to share the love?  Go to a restaurant and order from the gluten free menu (and then force them to fix your meal if it comes to you all gluteny)?  Stop by a food shelf and donate some gluten free food items?  How about donate to the upcoming Celiac Walk in Rochester, New York??

Please share what you will be doing (or did) today!  Let’s come together as a community and spread the word!
