I’ve been collecting a few news and notes in the celiac and gluten free world recently and thought it was finally time to share them.  New list of best Gastroenterologists, deals on gluten free Bisquick and a new find for me at the store.

Top 125 Gastroenterologists

This morning a new list came out by Beckers ASC Review listing the top Gastroenterologists in the country.   I did a quick search of docs with celiac disease listed as an expertise, and three came up:  Aaron Brzezinski, MD Cleveland Clinic, Sheila E. Crowe MD, University of Virginia- Charlottesville, and Anthony J. DiMarino, Jr., Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia.  Congratulations to them.  I am sure they are fine GIs.

However, I really don’t understand what this publication is and feel like some are missing out…Where are the Dr. Joseph Murray‘s or the Dr. Peter Green‘s of the world?  Two well known gastroenterologists who have done major work in their field of study which includes celiac disease.  Dr. Murray works at the Mayo Clinic and Dr. Green is out of Columbia University.  I feel like there are many more missing from this list which makes me wonder about the publication, if it only picked from a field of clients or something.

GF Kikkoman Soy Sauce

Anyway, check the list to see if you know anyone…

New Gluten Free Find

Okay it may not be so new…..I heard rumblings that it was coming a while back and I forgot about it.  I just saw Gluten Free Kikkoman Soy Sauce at my local Rainbow store in Coon Rapids, MN.  Rainbow is owned by Roundy’s.

I remember when Emma was first diagnosed trying to find a good soy sauce.  I ended up being dedicated to La Choy soy sauce which has always been gluten free – and easy to find.

If this Kikkoman’s product would have been available back then, I would have tried it right away.  I was impressed to find this product at a regular grocery store.  Has anyone tried it?

Gluten Free Bisquick Discounted at Target

GF Bisquick on Clearance at Target

I am not sure if it’s a bad sign when the gluten free Bisquick is on an end cap of the local SuperTarget with a “clearance style” sticker on it.

But I was able to grab a few at a discounted price last week.  Take a look, you may want to stock up of Target’s not going to carry it any more.

  1. I totally agree! While I love seeing GF foods discounted I’m always terrified that it means they won’t be sold anymore so I have to resist the urge to hoard. That’s what happened about a month ago with my favorite Glutino English Muffins at the Roseville Super Target. But after those went away they added all the King Arthur GF mixes (around $2 cheaper than Whole Foods), so it wasn’t a total loss.

But still sometimes I dream of a huge capacity chest freezer. 🙂

  2. use it all the time

  3. I am so glad that you have written about the soy sauce. My children and I all have celiac disease and we love sushi. I carry a full bottle of La Choy in my car. I will look for Kikkoman on the market.

  4. I haven’t seen the GF Kikkoman yet. I did find the San-J packets of GF soy sauce at the grocery store, though. Nice to tuck into a lunch box or going out.

Dr. Ed Hoffenberg is our GI at Children’s Hospital of Denver. *Love* him!

  5. Oh—and if you have a Kroger store, the Kroger brand of soy sauce is GF also. We typically use that instead of La Choy.

  6. From what I understand, each Target can have control over what they carry and don’t as far as grocery goes. So one Target may be removing the GF Bisquick from their shelves (or just clearing out older stock) while others will continue to carry it. I’ve been told to send a message to your Target (through the main website) requesting certain items. I did this when our Target stopped carrying KEMPS sour cream. After a few months we noticed it was back. One Target I noticed that actually has a huge gluten free selection is that one off of Cedar that is just north of the MOA and IKEA. I was amazed! I wish my Target was like that one.
