The eastern part of the Twin Cities has a great new place to shop, and in just a matter of days it will have its grand opening. So listen up…it just might be worth the drive.

Tailor Made Nutrition and Gluten Free 4 U opened this winter in Woodbury, Minnesota. It is a business that focuses on people and their allergens, with a specific emphasis on gluten-free foods. Every food item in the store is gluten-free; from some of the newest companies out there.

Mixes from the Heartland & Tambobamba: two unique products

Mixes from the Heartland & Tambobamba: two unique products

When I walked in I asked the staff for the gluten-free details. The employee explained that all of the food is gluten free, as well as many of the supplements and cosmetics they carried. So I would recommend an employee’s help to find the right supplements and cosmetics for you. But the boutique-style store had so many foods I hadn’t seen on a store shelf yet, I was impressed.

Just to name a few: Mixes from the Heartland seemed new to me.  Gluten Free 4 U carried mixes like Texas Cowboy Soup, Cornbread stuffing and Sweet Corn Casserole.  Another company is Tambobamba a gluten-free Latino cuisine.  The products included Jamaican Rice and Beans and Cuban Black Beans and Rice.

As for prices, they were very comparable to the health food stores at which I have shopped. In one case, I did find French Meadow Bakery Brownies that were about $1.25 more expensive than what I pay at SuperTarget. But it was really the only one price difference that really stuck out to me.

I picked up two mixes from 123 Gluten Free, Josefs (double chocolate “oreo style” cookies), and Orgran Mini Outback Animals Chocolate Cookies.  I’ve already tried the double chocolate cookies — very good!!!!  Perfect for a chocolate fix.

Stores like these don’t come around too often.  Please check this one out– its grand opening is Saturday, March 28th from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.  Its flier promises “samples galore, raffle, door prizes, coupons, recipes and fun!”  The company also has cooking classes and wellness classes you can find out much more about those on their calendar of events page.
